Quotes & Sound Clips

Whitey: Nervous?
Lucas: A little bit.
Whitey: Good. You oughta be. Just do what you've been doing all week in practice. You'll be fine.

Whitey: What the hell is this?
Mouth: Well, he have this website.
Jimmy: Yeah, we're sports announcers.
Not in here, you're not. The locker room is closed. No...media.

Whitey: All right! Let's take the court!

Whitey: Lucas, relax. Destiny has a way of finding you.

Whitey: Scott! Not your night, son.

Whitey: I'd stand up, but every time I do somebody kicks me in the ass for putting you on the team. Sit down! Boy I must be getting senile. Because I thought just maybe you were different. I stuck my neck out for you. Damn it, I trusted you!
Lucas: I shouldn't have hit him, you're right.
Whitey: You're damn right, I'm right.
Lucas: I don't think I can do this.
Right. One bad game and you just run away.

Whitey: What are you putting on, makeup? Get out in the gym and start warming up. Jagielski, when you find the pumps to match your skirt, you might meet us in the gym. Let's go! (claps)
Nathan: (To Lucas) Hey. This is just the start of it for you.
Whitey: NATHAN!

Whitey: Scott! Lucas Scott! One more time -- Lucas Scott! (sighs) (whistle blows)

Whitey: People who value their lives usually knock first. Oh. That explains it.
Dan: It's like a time capsule in here.
Whitey: What can I do for you, Danny?
Dan: Well...you can let it go.
(Laughs) That's kind of the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it?
Dan: If you have a problem with me, Whitey, don't take it out on Nathan.
What problem would that be, Danny?
Dan: Oh, I think you know. State Championship? Now you've gone and humiliated Karen's son in some feeble attempt to get even.
Karen's son? That's a very convenient way of putting it. It might interest you to know that Karen's son has taken himself off the team. That make you happy, Danny? Seeing the demise of a kid that you fathered and then abandoned.
Dan: (Laughing) Oh...Hey move Nathan back to shooting guard. You might finally win that State Championship.
You're just destroying kids' lives left and right, aren't you?
Dan: Well, you made a career out of it.

Whitey: Missed you at practice.
Lucas: I can't do it.
You wanna know something? I have had 35 winning seasons. But you know what keeps me up at night? The college jobs I never took. Coulda-beens have a way of doing that.
Lucas: Yeah
We got a game tomorrow night. You're on my team until tip-off. The rest is up to you.
(Sighs) Look, son...There's no shame in being afraid. Hell, we're all afraid. What you gotta do is figure out what you're afraid of. Because when you put a face on it, you can beat it. Better yet, you can use it. Think about it.

Whitey: You're gonna be okay.
Lucas: Yeah, I am.
